About us

We’re Mark and Georgie, the owners of Blacksmiths Cottages. We personally look after and manage the cottages, along with our 8-year-old daughter, Hannah, and our much-loved 14-year-old dog, Benny.

We purchased the cottages in March 2023. Before that, we ran a highly successful, national award-winning country inn in North Yorkshire. However, the pressures of the pandemic, long working hours, and raising a young child made it clear that we needed a fresh, exciting change.

So, we sold the inn and began searching for a business that would allow us to stay within the hospitality world, enjoy a better work–life balance, and be more present as hands-on parents to our beautiful girl.

That’s when we discovered Blacksmiths Cottages.

We were incredibly fortunate—this was the very first business we viewed, and we fell in love with it immediately. It was everything we hoped for. Although our business is still relatively young, it has already surpassed our expectations in every way. Our guests have been wonderful, and we’re delighted to have welcomed many returning visitors.

Looking ahead, we have exciting plans for the future. We’ll be renovating the onsite barn to create another two-bedroom property, with work scheduled to begin in winter 2025.
